- We returned from Punta Cana this morning! Spent most of the day catching up on sleep from the long journey.
- The first picture above of my feet as I laid on the beach pretty much sums up the gist of this vacation -- Simple relaxation!
- I miss the Dominican Republic already!
- Dominican people are VERY friendly, and it was such a pleasure to spend time in their country.
- The PUNTACANA Hotel and Resort is fabulous. Our room was very nice, the view of the beach was spectacular, it took about 3 minutes to walk to the beach and the food was simply awesome.
- They love the USD. With the current rate of 1 US Dollar = 33.1195 Dominican Peso - no wonders as to why.
- Punta Cana is perfect for total relaxation! If you want a lot of activities, you may find yourself getting bored. We were OK, we took one shopping excursion to Higuey which is about 45 minutes - 1hour away from Punta Cana.
- Early July is the perfect time to go. The resort was not crowed at all! Which made it easier for us to get loungers and towels for the beach quick and easy.
- Dominicians are beautiful! The women are georgeous! The men are too, and extremely flirtations.
- The weather was nice of course VERY hot up in the day, with the afternoons a bit cooler and evening showers. It was humid all day every day.
- One Dominican guy loved my straw Puma cap, "Summer Driver" so much he offered me a gallon of Dominican Rum for it. I thought about it, it was the only one left in the Puma store when I bought it, and I haven't seen it online. So, although tempting, I had to pass on his offer :) UPDATE: It's on the Puma website now, DARN! I bought a half gallon anyway, and thank god it made it back without breaking in my checked luggage!
- On my next visit to the country I will more than likely stay in Santo Domingo which is the capital of the Dominican Republic. There I think I will find a lot more on the type of history, attractions, shopping and activities that we typically like to do when traveling Europe. I didn't want that for this trip, as I wanted to experience the "resort" feel in the Carribean.
- I was only able to use my laptop in the lobby and by the pool, which was a downer, since I expected free WiFi in the room. It was cool though, just made it kind of inconvenient for day by day blog post of the vacation. I was able to chat with C and check email in the evenings when I had time.
- Overall it was great trip, with good family time! I might seriously consider purchasing a time share there just to have my own little slice of heaven!
The resort should be very nice... 9 restaurants, spa, 3 pools, activities and of course the beautiful beach!
My first vacation for Summer 07 has been booked! For the 4th of July I will be in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic sucking on a fruity drink laced with Rum under a coconut tree. The hotel I chose is actual a resort with a fabulous spa that I plan to abuse! I can hardly wait, work had been a beotch lately, so I'm looking forward to this bit of R & R (rest and relaxation). Totally disconnected, no conference calls, no project plans, no whining, complaining customers, no micro - managing boss!
